Bah!
I studied engineering at one of England's ancient universities and I'm old enough to have been told, perfectly legally, at job interviews that they wouldn't consider a woman for the post. I suppose going to the trouble of interviewing was just to show how fair they were - or perhaps to break the long day up with some female conversation.
It seems the real politik hasn't changed much.
