doireA bit late for IWD but never mind, it's still interesting.
... and the fact that it is the male noun or pronoun that usually comes first in phrases like 'he or she' or 'husband and wife' are the way they are not because of any ancient tradition or inherent qualities of English itself, but because a few pompous know-alls said so...
