I saw the [profile] lj_policy post last night but only skimmed it then. Now I've had time to look.

There seems to be grief over "We're sorry we can't share more information, but we wanted to address the issue to let you know we are aware of your concerns. Whenever possible, we will communicate information to you, even if it's just to say that we can't comment." which I read as an honest disclosure.

What do people want? Do they have nothing they're working on that they might want to keep secret? Never bid on Ebay and hoped that no one realised how much you were prepared to pay? Never left a cryptic message saying "key is under the mat"?

Hindsight says to me (YMMV):
  • WfI start using crude searches and sending complaints to LJ
  • LJ acts hastily
  • Posters explode
  • LJ backs down
  • WfI continue to push
  • LJ silently cripples searches for "objectionable" terms
  • presumably Wfi shuts up at least somewhat until it learns how to work the searches again
I'm probably biased; I don't use interest searches, I look at a posters' interests as part of my decision on whether to communicate more. And I assume no interests stated means a desire for privacy not uninteresting.
