This popped up with "restore from saved draft" so I guess I'll actually post it.

Comment and I'll pick seven of your icons, and then you will explain why you love/are using the icon (who doesn't love talking about their icons, seriously) and then post your explanation/this meme in your journal for other people to squee about their icons, and basically it will be a huge squee-fest of love and 100x100 square pixels.

This is one of my photos. I may be a little obsessed by ripples and waves, but then I spent several years studying vibration and cycles and feedback. All around people snap the magnificent views and I take pictures of sand. I have a new waterproof housing for my camera now so next year will feature underwater waves.

My daughter found this snail on a rose specimen she was drawing. It was about 2mm long and waved its eyes so determinedly.

Engineer. Rotary aero engine at Duxford museum. I know they're part of killing machines but I still like to look and try to puzzle them out.

This is the Southern cross, but (bad Doire) I can't remember the source of the image. Naked eye astronomy is cheap but not ideal for someone who is slightly short sighted. Generally I cheat and use binoculars.
This is my name in stylised katakana.   デーリ。I'm trying to learn Japanese. From this you can tell that my name is said nothing like it looks.

Iruka sensei from a naruto doujinshi, kurotori, by Kurono Nanae who also creates peacemaker and Vasilord. I don't know if he's being stalked, seeing ghosts or hallucinating at this point. This is why I need to read Japanese.
Part of a drawing by <lj user=karose>. Sanzo in the dress of Psyco le cernu cosplaying Saiyuki. This led me to buy a most  bizzare15 min DVD with clouds and kappas. I've always liked this drawing.
