This was going to be positive
Oct. 23rd, 2007 04:57 pmI have been hacking. I had forgotten how much fun it was. I feel so accomplished for once.
I have an old shareware flash card program based on Access. It suits me, I paid my money, I notified the writer of bugs, they said "oh we;ll fix that", I contacted them again with more, they didn't respond although the website now list some of the bugs and errors, they disappeared.
So I fixed the worst errors. It's not a good idea if the image and gloss don't match, but it was all in a database table so it wasn't too bad.
Last week I had had enough. Every time the program starts it gives an error message, even though there isn't an error condition. It's 9 years old now, no one will be interested. Firing up the old editors and character editing code. The startup message now says "ready" It's a small point but it's one less irritation. Whilst I was at it I changed the text to describe my dictionaries and redid the datatable. I know, it's strange, but it keeps me happy.
On the down side I've had a threatening cold since it became autumn. This weekend I had a stomach bug of the "Oh, God" kind. Now that's over the cold has decided it's best to kick a man, in the inclusive sense, when he's down, so conversations are on hold, but I will reply.
