I enjoyed that. Not unreservedly, but what's the chance that'll happen?

Not very spoilery if you've heard any rumours.

Good things

The Doctor had a plan. A fully formed and detailed plan. And then he had the patience to wait.

The Master got to shrink someone.

Paradoxes. You've got to have paradoxes in a time travel series.

Martha's all grown up, and making rational decisions.

And so is Jack.

Lucy was broken right from the start of this episode. What did it?

The logo/seal on the bridge.

Martha's found herself another doctor. They are a distinct sub-species, you know.

References. And more references culled from everywhere.

Okay things

Massed telepathic power. It was set up as part of this world with the satellites so why not use it. I worry about the world's population's ability to cope with time zones though.

That's a long way to go in a year.

Ageing FX. They were so proud of them, but....

Looking into the void. It's personal; I'm a bit leery of Time Lord history.

Wish they hadn't things

Floating, glowing Doctor. It trips my wish-fulfilment-fantasy radar. As did all-powerful-Rose.

The reset. Though I suppose it had to happen since the world was so broken. I would have preferred a less dramatically broken world struggling on with repairs and patches.

And more references culled from everywhere.
This isn't plagiarism or "ripping off". It's allusion; it's a wink to the viewer saying "See, we share this culture." Language Log had a few posts on the boundaries of plagiarism which put this very clearly.

You've got to have paradoxes in a time travel series.
I should just like to stand up and be counted. I loved Mad Larry's two volume "Interference" for its overall use of quantum mechanics.

PS Dear Live Journal, please stop scrambling my cuts. They are there for a reason, you know.

I said "Stop it!"

I give up. The cuts are right, The HTML tags are properly paired, I'll just put up with unwanted bold text.

Yep, agreed on all points. Well, the reset didn't bother me so much - it would have been so hard to maintain the 'look, it could be real' illusion that Dr Who toys with. I can allow one reset every other season, if necessary ;)

And especially agree with your point about culture-sharing. We must be in synch; I was writing a (longer and more sociologically tortured) post on the same theme at the same time ;)
