Amazing disappearing posts

Well, it would appear that if I create a custom list with only one person on it and then post with that security, I can't see it either.  What's the betting I can't remember my other journal password? How am I going to check where it appears if I can't ever see it.

Has anyone else been suffering from overlapping posts?
























It's intermittent and usually goes away when the next friend's post comes in.  I'm wondering if it's a side effect of "LJ Clean Friends"

The answer seems to be to friend yourself and put yourself on any friends' filters you have going.

Further experimentation showed that, despite what it says in FAQ 91, posts with edited dates appear in a position corresponding to the edited date not the posting time. So they're too old to show up on a friends list.

Which is exactly the behaviour I wanted in the first place.

So I would hope. What's the point of editing dates otherwise? I just wish they wouldn't do that with posts from vastly different time zones.

Is it backdated? Backdated posts don't turn up on friends lists at all, although the permitted person can read it by looking at it on your journal.

That's the exactly the behaviour I wanted, so I could leave a comment with a link to a private entry. If I hadn't RTFM I wouldn't have worried.

There are, at least, two versions of FAQ 91. One is much clearer about the effect of backdating. Which page you get depends on whether you're posting from the old Horizon or the new default post-an-entry page

No wonder things get confusing. Yet again, much as I love Livejournal (and I do), I do wish they'd spend some time sorting these things out before they go and give us all the fancy things we never asked for!
