The promised Yuletide letter
Saiyuki Gaiden I find Konzen a fascinating character. He seems to be genuinely dedicated to his work, much more so than Kenren or Tenpou with their own agendas, or lack of them. This might be influenced by my having slipped into bureaucracy myself and experiencing the effects of "No 1 curr".
I'd like to know more about his history and work with the celestial committees. Does he work for his aunt or the Emperor? How was he recruited? What is all that paperwork for? Who does it benefit? What happens to it when Konzen flees?
It sounds like I'm asking for a political and economic treatise. I know that from the outside the obsession with data and "getting it right" is justifiably absurd.
Journey to the West is part of the reason I love Saiyki. I wrote this last year for Yuletide, but I'd love to see more. It really is a work that has had so many variations and adaptations made that you could do almost anything with it: AU, fill in back story, after the book, expansion of minor characters. All are good.
The Culture I would like a little bit of Banks with plot. If you could give it that characteristic, so infuriating last minute twist that means you have to read it all over again to see how it really fits together, I would be absolutely delighted.
I said any character, but it could be original characters; the setting and worlds are the thing. And I do like the ships, drones and minds.
Chronicles of Amber - Merlin and Mandor Merlin is so much Mandor's baby brother (in as much as relative ages mean anything in Chaos). I found the meal on the bridge unpromptedly slashy when I first read it so you could go that way, but I think that the relationship is a jockeying not for sexual or political power but for family regard. Who is going to have the role of big brother.
Generally I like back story; one look at my previous requests should make that clear. And detail; I like the unraveling of a nitpicky point. Go on, surprise me!
Edited to add content to placeholder.
Also at http://doire.livejournal.com/97977.html (How do I get it to do this automatically? Anyone?)
Thanks for the suggestions. It worked.
