University challange

doireTonight Jeremy Paxman asked 8 students what "K" and "S" stood for in slash fiction, defined as a branch of science fiction, published in fanzines, about Startrek.(1)
My daughter sniggered. I tried to keep a straight face. The young women said nothing. Eventually one man volunteered the answer "Kirk and Spock".
What I want to know is, did they know and not want to admit it on national television, or are our students so innocent?
They could be; University Challenge is the show where once one student, to the question "What is the study of friction called?" replied "frottage".
