New Who
I have succumbed. I have resubscribed to RADW.
And it's as if I'd never been away. The same trolls, the same out-of-control threads on the same subjects and, as far as I can tell, much the same posters. I don't seem to feel the need to check every day though. Perhaps I've grown out of it.
Usenet is where I feel at home. I like the way it's so open, that if I post I have as much chance that I will be read as anyone else. Sure there are cliques and factions, but they have don't have the sort of influence that seems to affect the yahoo groups and other web based bulletin systems. No-one can take their ball away and go home.
Can you have the openness without the trolls? Does keeping spammers out automatically make newcomers feel like outsiders?
Maybe I just enjoy the flame wars.
