Computer woes.

wtf?

It's like having your Mother rearranging your kitchen (or a colleague tidy your desk drawers) because "things would be more convenient here instead of there".

Haven't they heard of the UI and muscle memory. I don't watch my mouse pointer, anymore than I watch my hand when I reach for spices, I just move it. And don't get me started on Microsoft's bloody personalised menus.

Ahem. I spent yesterday working on some graphics. Overloaded the memory and crashed out taking my file system with it. Only that directory tree, but it was a day's work. There happens to be 2G of suitable memory going spare, since best beloved tried a bit of injudicious overclocking a couple of weeks ago and the new board won't take that memory form.

Now, I'm a good girl and I know to check over my system before upgrading. What do you know, it reports possible bad sectors. Two hours of disk checks later I decide there's nothing wrong, but Windows is clearly not going to shut up unless I let it do a disk scan.

And it still falls over when I try to apply the filter. At least saving on a different physical drive protects the files.

Have I mentioned my love for Firefox's on-the-fly British spell checker?
